I\u2019ve been married to Pam for five years. I have a daughter, Kya, who just turned eighteen, and two stepdaughters, Tasha and Danise\u2014both older, both single moms, both living with us.<\/p>\n

For a while, Kya helped them out. She babysat their kids, sometimes for hours. At first they paid her. Then\u2026 they stopped. Just assumed she would keep doing it \u201cbecause we\u2019re family.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kya finally said no.<\/p>\n

I supported her.<\/p>\n

That didn\u2019t sit well with Pam or her daughters.<\/p>\n

For a second, I couldn\u2019t even speak.<\/p>\n

I was furious.<\/p>\n

I was ready to cancel everything\u2014trip, tickets, all of it\u2014and deal with this right then and there.<\/p>\n

I looked at each of them.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd if anything like this ever happens again\u2014if you lie, hide things, or try to control her like this\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

I paused.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou won\u2019t be living in this house anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n

No one argued this time.<\/p>\n

Kya and I left for the airport an hour later.<\/p>\n

As we walked out, I glanced back once.<\/p>\n

The kids were still watching.<\/p>\n
