Instead, I walked into a house that didn\u2019t feel like my home anymore.<\/p>\n

Music was blasting from the living room. Empty bottles covered the coffee table. Three of my husband\u2019s friends were sprawled on the couch like they owned the place.<\/p>\n

My husband, Derek, looked shocked when he saw me in the doorway.<\/p>\n

For over a month, my son had been sleeping wherever he could while I was working in another state, completely unaware.<\/p>\n

Derek looked at me then, finally realizing what was happening.<\/p>\n

Marcus closed the notebook.<\/p>\n

Derek\u2019s confidence vanished.<\/p>\n

Marcus explained, very clearly, what the consequences could be if Ethan decided to press charges or if the case moved forward.<\/p>\n

When Marcus finally stood up to leave, Derek looked like someone had knocked the wind out of him.<\/p>\n

After the door closed, he turned to me.<\/p>\n
