My\u00a0mom and\u00a0I have\u00a0never really had a\u00a0relationship.\u00a0<\/strong>She never cared about\u00a0me, and\u00a0I couldn\u2019t be\u00a0bothered with someone like that. But it\u2019s not that\u00a0I haven\u2019t tried throughout my\u00a0life.\u00a0I\u00a0always invited<\/strong>\u00a0her to\u00a0my\u00a0kids<\/a>\u2019 birthday parties, she\u00a0never showed.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u00a0would call her to\u00a0catch\u00a0up, and\u00a0she wouldn\u2019t answer.<\/strong>\u00a0I\u2019d text to\u00a0find out how she was doing and was left on\u00a0\u201cread\u201d. So\u00a0eventually\u00a0I just stopped trying.<\/strong>\u00a0It\u00a0was clear that she didn\u2019t want to\u00a0put in\u00a0the effort, and\u00a0I didn\u2019t think\u00a0I should carry all the weight of\u00a0constantly trying.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Then out of\u00a0the blue,\u00a0she called me<\/strong>\u00a0last month. It\u00a0had been nearly a\u00a0year since we\u00a0last spoke so\u00a0it\u00a0came as\u00a0a\u00a0shock. When I\u00a0answered, she said, \u201cHi\u00a0honey,\u00a0I\u00a0need a\u00a0favor.<\/strong>\u00a0Can I\u00a0stay at\u00a0your place? I\u00a0was shocked\u00a0by\u00a0the nerve\u00a0<\/strong>she had. She couldn\u2019t even check in\u00a0on\u00a0her own grandchildren, but she wanted to\u00a0use my\u00a0house as\u00a0a\u00a0Bed &\u00a0Breakfast?<\/strong>\u00a0That was enough to\u00a0bring all the anger\u00a0I carried toward her back.<\/p>\n

Without a\u00a0second thought,\u00a0I\u00a0said\u00a0no.<\/strong>\u00a0She went quiet for a\u00a0moment and then snapped, saying, \u201cAfter everything I\u2019ve done for you, this is\u00a0how you repay\u00a0me?\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>That was where\u00a0I drew the line. I\u00a0told her that she had\u00a0never done anything<\/strong>\u00a0for me\u00a0or\u00a0my\u00a0family<\/a>.<\/p>\n

She tried to\u00a0call me\u00a0back and texted\u00a0countless times,\u00a0<\/strong>but\u00a0I did to\u00a0her what she had always done to\u00a0me. A\u00a0week later, my\u00a0cousin texted\u00a0me.\u00a0<\/strong>Turns out, my\u00a0mom had told the whole family that\u00a0I begged her to\u00a0come stay with\u00a0me, but she\u00a0\u201cgraciously declined.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Good for you, telling her no. You should have told everyone that you’re worried about her, thinking she declined an invitation that never came since she actually asked. After not hearing from her in a year. But, this is as far as your help goes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
