**PART 2**
Twenty minutes before the ceremony, Vanessa approached the bridal hallway wearing a satisfied grin.
She expected to see me in tears.
Instead, I stood before a mirror in the gown Catherine had prepared months earlier.
My hair was beautifully arranged.
My makeup looked flawless.
Catherine stood next to me, securing a pearl necklace around my neck.
Vanessa stopped cold.
“What… what happened?”
I turned calmly.
“I’m getting married.”
She stared at the dress.
“Where did you get that?”
“A gift from someone who actually loves me.”
Her cheeks flushed red.
Mother hurried into the room.
“Emily! Your sister is devastated because you’ve been excluding her!”
I faced them both calmly.
“Vanessa is no longer my maid of honor.”
Mom gasped.
“You can’t do that!”
“I already have.”
“And who’s walking you down the aisle?” she demanded. “Your father isn’t here!”
Dad had passed away six years before.
Mother knew exactly how deeply that remark would hurt.
But Catherine stepped forward.
“I believe my husband, Robert, would be honored.”
I smiled despite my tears.
“He already agreed.”
Patricia’s face contorted.
“You’re choosing strangers over your family?”
“No,” I replied. “I’m choosing people who treat me like family.”
Vanessa attempted to move past me.
“I’m telling James everything!”
“There’s no need,” came a voice.
James stood just outside the open door with our wedding coordinator.
He’d arrived after learning about the destroyed gown.
His expression was pale with anger.
“I’ve already seen the messages.”
Vanessa gaped.
“James, Emily’s manipulating you!”
He met her eyes.
“You deliberately tried to humiliate the woman I’m marrying.”
Then he faced Patricia.
“And you helped her.”
Mother began sobbing.
“We’re her family!”
James shook his head.
“Then you should have protected her.”
The coordinator stepped forward.
“I’m sorry, but your access to the private wedding areas has been revoked. Security will escort you to the exit.”
Vanessa erupted.
“You can’t throw us out!”
I held her gaze.
“You destroyed my dress. You planned to make me look unstable in front of two hundred guests. And you expected me to apologize.”
She tried to speak.
I continued.
“You don’t get another chance.”
Security escorted them away without another confrontation.
Thirty minutes afterward, I walked down the aisle on Robert’s arm.
James started crying as soon as he saw me.
“You’re beautiful,” he whispered when I joined him.
I smiled back.
“So are you.”
Our wedding became everything I’d hoped for.
