Chapter 7
And every time I see him, I remember that night.
Not with fear anymore.
With gratitude.
Because that night taught me something I would never forget.
Money can buy buildings.
Power can buy silence.
A family name can open doors.
But none of those things can create love.
Love is the person who notices.
The person who listens.
The person who acts.
The person who chooses you when choosing you is difficult.
When I look back at my son’s first birthday, I don’t remember the hotel.
I don’t remember the decorations.
I don’t remember the people who betrayed us.
I remember carrying Leo in my arms.
I remember my father opening the car door.
I remember hearing my son breathe again.
And I remember the moment I understood something.
I was never fighting to protect a legacy.
I was fighting to protect a life.
My son.
My family.
My future.
And I would do it again.
Every time.
Without hesitation.
Because the greatest promise a parent can make is not that they will create a perfect world for their child.
That promise is impossible.
The greatest promise is this:
When the world becomes dangerous…
When the truth becomes painful…
When everyone else turns away…
I will find you.
I will hold you.
And I will choose you.
Always.
