My Brother Arrived Ten Minutes Early—Then He Saw a Black Belt Choke Me Unconscious After I Tapped

**PART 2**

But before I reached it, one of the younger students spoke.
“Wait.”
Everyone turned.
His name was Evan.
He was nineteen and had only been training at Apex for six months.
His hands were shaking.
“I saw it.”
Rick looked at him.
“Saw what?”
Evan swallowed.
“What happened to Sarah.”
Derek rolled his eyes.
“Here we go.”
Evan looked directly at him.
“You didn’t let go.”
Derek’s face changed.
Evan continued.
“She tapped three times.”
“Four,” another voice said.
A woman near the wall raised her hand.
“Four times.”
Then another student spoke.
“I saw it too.”
Then another.
Suddenly, the silence that had protected Derek for months began to crack.
People started talking.
They described other incidents.
A smaller student who had been held too long in a choke.
A teenager who had been injured during a “lesson.”
A woman who had stopped attending after Derek mocked her for crying.
A man who had complained to Rick and was told that Derek was simply “old-school.”
Derek looked around the room.
“You’re all pathetic.”
Rick stepped toward the students.
“Everyone calm down.”
But nobody was calming down.
Because the truth was no longer private.
It was standing in the middle of the room.

Cole walked toward me.
Then he noticed something on the floor.
A small black object.
He picked it up.
My phone.
I had forgotten it near the edge of the mat.
The screen was cracked.
Cole turned it over.
“Did you record tonight?”
I shook my head.
“No.”
Evan looked at the phone.
“I did.”
Everyone stared at him.
He reached into his bag and pulled out his own phone.
“I started recording because Derek had been acting weird lately.”
Rick immediately said,
“Delete that.”
Evan froze.
Cole looked at Rick.
“Why?”
Rick didn’t answer.
Cole took one slow step toward him.
“You just told him to delete evidence.”
Rick’s face hardened.
“I’m the owner.
I decide what happens in my gym.”
“No,” Cole said.
“You don’t.”
Rick’s eyes narrowed.
“Are you threatening me?”
Cole shook his head.
“No.”
He looked around the room.
“I’m telling you what happens next.”
He pointed toward the door.
“Someone calls emergency services.”
Rick’s face went pale.
Derek scoffed.
“For a choke?”
Cole turned toward him.
“For putting someone unconscious after she tapped.”
Derek laughed.
“You’re making this bigger than it is.”
Then Evan’s phone chimed.
He looked at the screen.
His face changed.
“Guys…”
“What?” I asked.
Evan looked at me.
“There’s another video.”
“Another video?”
He nodded slowly.
“From the gym’s security system.”
Rick suddenly moved toward him.
“Give me that phone.”
Evan stepped backward.
Cole immediately placed himself between them.
“Don’t.”
Rick stopped.
For several seconds, nobody moved.
Then Evan whispered,
“The cameras record everything.”
Rick looked at the ceiling.
There were three security cameras visible from the mat.
One pointed directly toward the sparring area.
One toward the entrance.
One toward the changing rooms.
Derek suddenly looked nervous.
Rick looked even more nervous.
And I realized something.
They weren’t afraid of what happened tonight.
They were afraid of what the cameras had already captured.
Cole noticed it too.
He looked at me.
“Sarah.”
“What?”
“Pack your bag.”
“Why?”
“Because this isn’t about one round anymore.”
He glanced at the cameras.
“It’s about how long they’ve been doing this.”
That was when Derek made his second mistake.
He looked at Rick.
And quietly said,
“You told me the footage was deleted.”

Nobody breathed.
Derek realized what he had said.
Rick closed his eyes for half a second.
Too late.
Evan stared at him.
“What footage?”
Derek shook his head.
“Nothing.”
But it wasn’t nothing.
Everyone heard him.
Cole looked at Rick.
“You told him the footage was deleted?”
Rick tried to recover.
“You’re twisting words.”
Cole didn’t respond.
Instead, he looked at Evan.
“Back up your recording.”
Evan nodded.
“I can send it to my email.”
“Do it.”
Evan immediately began typing.
Rick moved toward him again.
Cole stepped in front of him.
“Stay there.”
Rick stopped.
Derek’s face was red.
“You think you can walk into my gym and order everyone around?”
Cole looked at him.
“No.”
“Then why are you acting like you’re in charge?”
“Because nobody else is.”
That sentence hit harder than a shout.
Several students lowered their eyes.
For months, they had waited for someone to say it.
Now someone had.
Rick finally snapped.
“Everybody out!”
No one moved.
“I said get out!”
A woman near the wall shook her head.
“No.”
Rick stared at her.
She crossed her arms.
“No more.”
Another student nodded.
Then another.
Within seconds, almost everyone was standing together.
Not fighting.
Not threatening.
Just refusing to pretend anymore.
Derek looked around and suddenly seemed much smaller.

Then the front door opened.
A man walked inside.
He wore a dark jacket and carried a small tool bag.
Rick’s expression changed immediately.
“Tom.”
The man looked around.
“What’s going on?”
Cole watched him carefully.
Rick walked toward him.
“We’re closed.”
Tom looked confused.
“You called me twenty minutes ago.”
Rick froze.
“I did?”
“You said the security system was malfunctioning.”
Evan looked at Cole.
Cole’s eyes narrowed.
Rick had called someone to remove the footage.
Before anyone could stop him, Tom walked toward the security panel.
Cole spoke.
“Don’t touch it.”
Tom stopped.
Rick stepped forward.
“That’s a private system.”
Cole nodded.
“Then nobody should be afraid of preserving it.”
Tom looked between them.
“I don’t want any trouble.”
“Neither do we,” Cole said.
“Just leave the system alone.”
Tom slowly put his hands up.
“Fine.”
Rick suddenly shouted,
“Tom, go.”
Tom left.
The door closed.
Cole turned toward Rick.
“You called him after you saw what happened.”
Rick didn’t answer.
“Why?”
Still nothing.
Then Rick said quietly,
“You don’t understand.”
Cole’s voice remained level.
“Then explain it.”
Rick rubbed his face.
“Derek has been with me for years.”
“And?”
“He brings people in.”
Derek stared at him.
Rick continued.
“He’s good for business.”
The room went silent.
I felt sick.
“So you knew?”
Rick looked at me.
“I knew he trained hard.”
“You knew he hurt people.”
“I knew he was aggressive.”
“You knew.”
Rick didn’t answer.
That was answer enough.

Then Evan spoke.
“There’s something else.”
He held up his phone.
“I found an old message.”
Rick’s face changed.
“Where?”
“Group chat.”
Evan turned the screen toward us.
It was a conversation between several instructors.
One message from Rick stood out.
“Keep an eye on Sarah.
Derek says she gets scared easily.
Don’t let her quit after a bad round.”
My stomach dropped.
I looked at Rick.
“You knew about me before tonight.”
He didn’t speak.
Derek looked at him.
“You told them?”
Rick said nothing.
Derek suddenly looked furious.
“You told me she was a problem.”
Rick looked at him.
“I said she was inexperienced.”
Derek laughed bitterly.
“You said she needed to be taught a lesson.”
The gym fell silent again.
I looked at Derek.
“What?”
He stared at me.
Then he seemed to realize he’d exposed himself.
I stepped backward.
“You planned this?”
Derek shook his head.
“No.”
But his voice wasn’t convincing.
Cole turned toward him.
“What did Rick tell you?”
Derek looked at the floor.
“Nothing.”
Cole didn’t move.
Derek finally muttered,
“He said she was talking about quitting.”
I stared at Rick.
“So?”
Derek continued.
“He said if you scared her enough, she’d either toughen up or leave.”
My hands began shaking.
Rick immediately protested.
“That isn’t what I meant.”
“You told him to scare me?”
“I told him to push you.”
“You told him to hurt me.”
“No.”
Derek suddenly laughed.
“You’re the one who said nobody learns until they’re afraid.”
Rick turned toward him.
“Shut up.”
And there it was.
The partnership.
The friendship.
The excuse.
All of it was collapsing.
Then Cole asked one question.
“How many?”
Rick looked at him.
“How many what?”
“How many people have you done this to?”
Rick didn’t answer.
Cole waited.
Eventually, one of the older students spoke.
“Seven.”
Another said,
“More than seven.”
A woman near the lockers wiped tears from her eyes.
“Fourteen that I know about.”
Rick looked around.
His business was collapsing in front of him.

Then the emergency sirens became audible outside.
Someone had called for help.
Rick looked at Cole.
“You called them?”
Cole shook his head.
“No.”
He looked toward Evan.
Evan shrugged.
“I did.”
The doors opened.
Two officers and paramedics entered.
The room became still.
One of the paramedics approached me.
“Are you Sarah?”
I nodded.
“We heard you lost consciousness.”
I nodded again.
They checked me and asked several questions.
Then one officer looked around.
“Who is responsible for what happened?”
Nobody answered immediately.
Then I heard my own voice.
“Derek.”
Derek stared at me.
I swallowed.
“And the owner knew.”
Rick’s face collapsed.
The officer wrote something down.
Then another officer asked,
“Is there video?”
Evan held up his phone.
“Yes.”
Cole looked at me.
For the first time that night, his expression softened.
“You did the right thing.”
I almost laughed.
“I was terrified.”
“You still spoke.”
Then the officer approached Cole.
“You were involved in the second sparring match?”
“Yes.”
“Did you strike him?”
“No.”
“Did you injure him?”
“No.”
“Did he tap?”
“Yes.”
“And did you release immediately?”
“Yes.”
The officer nodded.
“Good.”
Derek suddenly spoke.
“He attacked me!”
Everyone looked at him.
The officer raised an eyebrow.
“You just said he did not strike you.”
Derek went silent.
Then the officer asked,
“Where is the security footage?”
Rick looked at the floor.
Nobody answered.
The officer repeated the question.
Rick finally said,
“The system has been having problems.”
Evan laughed.
Not because it was funny.
Because everyone now understood exactly what Rick was trying to do.
Then Cole said,
“Officer, I think you should know something.”
Everyone looked at him.
Cole pointed toward the security panel.
“Someone tried to remove the footage before you arrived.”
The officer turned toward Rick.
“Did you?”
Rick said nothing.
The officer’s expression hardened.
“Then don’t touch anything else.”
Derek looked at Rick.
“You said it was handled.”
Rick whispered,
“Shut up.”
And that was the moment I realized something terrifying.
Derek wasn’t the only person responsible.
He was just the person willing to put his hands on people.
Someone else had been standing behind him, opening the door.
