Her Husband Changed His Story After Police Found What Was Hidden Upstairs

**Part 3**

That night, I sat beside her hospital bed again.
She was asleep, her injured hand resting on the blanket.

I reached into my purse and found the small piece of her broken bracelet that Mrs. Cole had given me after police finished photographing it.
I held it for a moment, then placed it carefully beside my daughter’s hand.

When she opened her eyes, she looked at it.
“Is that mine?”
“Yes.”
“Can it be fixed?”

I smiled through the tears I had been holding back all night.
“Yes. We’ll fix it.”

She closed her eyes again.

And for the first time since the hospital called, I knew exactly what I wanted to protect.
Not the marriage.
Not the bedroom.
Not the life I had thought I was coming home to.

Her.

Because my daughter had walked into that bedroom believing it was her home.
She walked out of it injured, frightened, and alone.
But she had carried the truth with her.

And this time, nobody was going to make her apologize for it.
